Detach and reset, explained

Solar Panel Removal and Reinstallation in Alsip

Here is exactly what happens to your array between the day it comes off and the day it is producing again.

What Detach and Reset Actually Means

The name is a little technical, so let's unpack it. Detach means taking your solar system off the roof. Reset means putting it back. In between, your roofer replaces the roof. Simple enough. The care is in the details. Before anything moves, we photograph the array and the wiring and record how much power it is making, because later we need something to compare against. Next comes a careful electrical shutdown and disconnect. Then the panels come off, one at a time, followed by the racking and the conduit. Each panel gets a label that matches its spot on a layout sheet. Each rail and clamp goes on an inventory list. Everything is stored safely until the new roof is done. Then the reset starts. Fresh attachments are anchored into the new shingles and each hole gets brand-new flashing, because old mounts and old seals do not belong on a new roof. Panels go back in their original places, every connection is remade and the output is compared with that first reading. You get the documentation when it checks out. That is the whole job, start to finish. It is the most common call we get from Alsip homeowners whose roofs have come due under an array.

The Pieces of a Detach and Reset

Each one is part of every job we take on. None are optional extras.

  • A starting record

Photos, wiring notes and a production reading before the work begins.

  • Careful shutdown

Power isolated and lines disconnected before a single clamp is loosened.

  • Panels lifted off

Removed one by one and labeled to match the layout sheet.

  • Racking and conduit down

Rails, clamps and wire runs removed so the roof is fully clear.

  • Stored with an inventory

Every piece counted, protected and kept out of the weather.

  • Fresh mounts and flashing

New attachments set into the new roof, each one sealed.

  • Reinstalled in place

Panels back in their original positions and rewired.

  • Tested and documented

Output compared to the starting reading, with records for you.

Three Stages, in Plain Order

  1. Before the roofer arrives

We visit, take the starting record and quote a firm price, usually within 48 hours. Removal is then pinned just ahead of your roofer's tear-off.

  2. While the roof is replaced

Power is shut off, then panels, rails and wire runs are lifted away, tagged and stored. Your roofer has the roof to themselves.

  3. When the shingles are finished

Attachments and flashing are installed, panels return to their spots, the system is wired back up and we test it against the starting record. Then you get the paperwork.
